EDUCATION 411

Education 411 (“E411”) is a nonpartisan organization established in 2006 to inform Westwood residents of key issues facing our public schools.

Since its formation, E411 members have attended numerous town meetings, circulated several newsletters, built an email database reaching several hundred residents and organized well-received Community Forums on the topics of state funding of public education and the specifics of  Chapter 70 (in 2006) and safety issues in the schools (in 2007).   To obtain further information about E411 or to subscribe to our periodic newsletters, please visit E411 on-line at  Education411.org.

EDUCATION411: KEEPING INFORMED ABOUT WESTWOOD EDUCATION

How do you keep informed about important issues facing the Westwood schools? Do you attend every School Committee and Finance Commission meeting? Scour the local media for news reports? Regularly review town websites looking for updates? Listen to banter on the sidelines? Truthfully, with busy schedules and too few hours in the day, it can be difficult to keep informed – even with the best of intentions to do so.

To address this reality, several years ago, a group of Westwood parents banded together to form EDUCATION411, a grass-roots volunteer organization with the mission of promoting informed discussion about Westwood’s public schools. E411 members:

• Publicize, attend and provide nonpartisan summaries of public meetings in town such as meetings of the School Committee and Finance Commission.

• Organize periodic community forums on subjects involving the public schools such as recent forums on state aid for education and school safety.

• Provide a forum for candidates for public office to communicate their positions to the voting public.

• Maintain an email distribution list to keep citizens informed of relevant issues on a timely basis.
